As the theme of this space--"Touch, Make and Think"--indicates, the purpose of this space is to deepen one's understanding of the content of the main exhibition by a hands-on experience. Real, life-size materials and tools are placed so as to be touched and used. Such traditional household items as straw sandals, straw boots, a stone grinder, such traditional folk toys as beanbags "pacchi" (a Japanese version of power pogs) are there to be touched and played with. Visitors can also try their hand in making articles with straw and weaving. Museum guides give demonstrations and lessons in the use of displayed items.
