Hauling Herring onto Shore (diorama)

A large number of herring was caught by set nets, then transferred into a net hung under the bottom of a ship called "waku-bune" which, in turn, transported the fish close to the beach. Then, fishermen, with scoop nets, transferred the fish onto a boat called "kumi-sen" which took the fish to the shore where women with wooden boxes on their backs unloaded the fish. This entire procedure was called "oki-age" at fishing grounds
